Yesterday Gizmodo, one of the internet's best technology blogs, celebrated with Gizmodo Day! They celebrated through readers/fans setting up Meetups all around the world. According to Gizmodo, there were 406 organized Meetups with over 1,500 people. I attended the San Diego Giz Day and it was fun meeting other Giz readers. The San Diego Giz Day Meetup Organizer, Eric was an excellent host. San Diego Giz Readers celebrated at Dave & Busters dishing out stories on their first iPods, cell phones & someone came to #Gizday with a Zune (the 2nd person I met in my life to own one).
Giz reader AJ, told a story about how he got his first Ipod at school by trading a girl potato salad for her Ipod. The girl was having troubles operating her Ipod, giving up & basically saying that it was broken when it really wasn't. At school they had a special lunch for students serving fried chicken, potato salad and a drink for $7. She saw that AJ had potato salad and said, "Is that Potato Salad? I love Potato Salad, I'll trade you my Ipod for your Potato Salad" and the rest is history. No one could really beat that how I got my first Ipod story. Mine was I bought a Silver Ipod Nano with my birthday money. (woot!)
At one point the San Diego Giz Readers took out all their cell phones and took a one big picture! The pre-dominant phone at San Diego Giz Day was the iPhone, there were few Blackberrys in the mix too!
Gizmodo did an amazing job by promoting Giz Day through world wide Meetups. Too bad it's only once a year, maybe us Giz Readers can get together more often! :)
