Think Pink!

This past Thursday (8/19) was my last day at J Public Relations (JPR). One word to describe it: bittersweet, bummer because I'm to miss all the wonderful people I worked closely with over the past 4 months, but this will only lead to better things!

My time at JPR was a terrific hands-on experience in the PR industry. I started in April and my first day I started out writing Facebook updates and tweets for one of their restaurant clients which slowly lead into managing multiple social media accounts.

I spent most of my time and probably my favorite thing to do at JPR was writing press materials such as client fact sheets and press releases. I wrote press releases and fact sheets for the hospitality, restaurant and luxury goods industries.

My biggest accomplishment was handling a client's Grand Opening RSVP list. One of the most anticipated openings for the summer I was held in a position where I had to pre-screen, double-screen and triple check the lists to anyone who might be a possible party crasher. After 3 weeks of detail oriented hard work, the event went smoothly and was a huge success. The client was pleased with how it turned out!

On my first day I received a packet with a section to fill in 5 things I already know about PR, 5 things I want to learn at JPR and 5 things I didn't expect to learn. Here's my breakdown.

5 Things I already know about PR

1. If you're not passionate about your client's product or service who else will be?
2. Be specific on your client's target market to achieve maximum exposure
3. Social Media is a quick way to send out a client's message
4. Timing, Publications are on deadlines too!
5. Press kits must be written in a way that majority will understand your cause.

5 Things I want to learn at JPR

1. Learn how to properly pitch
2. How to become a better writer
3. Learn how to manage or work a Red carpet event
4. Learn how a morning segment runs
5. Overall how to be a successful publicist in the industry

5 Things I didn't expect to learn

1. Being aggressive in PR
2. Navigate Cision
3. Something as simple as presenting yourself in a professional and friendly manner helps media and clients remember you!
4. A positive attitude brings a smile to everyone in the office.
5. How quickly the JPR team can put together a crisis communication plan!

What I've learned isn't limited to those 10 specific things. Everything I learned and the experience I gained will be an advantage against the others who are job seeking like me. I will miss being around the JPR office and everyone who works there, but I knew it would eventually come to a close.

Think Pink and don't let the pink fool you!

My Birthday surprise from the JPR girls!
